Why We Support Men’s Mental Health, And Why It Matters
Let’s talk about something important.
Not trendy.
Not glamorous.
Just real.
Men’s mental health.
We talk a lot at Origins about identity, heritage, strength, and connection, and behind all of that is something deeper. We make jewellery that means something, that says something about who you are and where you come from. But the truth is, you can look the part and still be carrying something heavy inside.
And that’s exactly why we support men’s mental health.
Because right now, too many men are silently struggling. Too many are suffering alone. And far too many feel like they can’t speak up. That needs to change.
The Quiet Struggles Men Face Every Day
You don’t need to dig far to see the stats, though they are sobering. In the UK, around 75% of suicides are men. That’s not just a number. That’s thousands of brothers, dads, sons, mates.
But behind those statistics are the day-to-day challenges so many of us face. Pressure to be strong. To provide. To sort things out. To not show weakness. It all builds up.
Here are just a few of the things men commonly struggle with, often in silence:
1. Emotional Suppression
From a young age, a lot of us are taught, whether directly or just by watching others to man up. Don’t cry. Don’t talk about your feelings. Keep it in. Over time, that turns into not knowing how to talk about what’s going on.
2. Work Pressure & Identity
For many men, our job becomes our identity. When that’s not going well, whether due to redundancy, burnout, or financial stress, it hits harder than we like to admit. It’s not just about money; it’s about self-worth.
3. Relationship Struggles
When relationships break down, men are more likely to isolate themselves. We often lean on our partner for emotional support, so when that’s gone, we don’t always have the tools or network to process it.
4. Loneliness
You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Men tend to have fewer close friendships as they get older, and that isolation can take a serious toll on mental health.
5. Stigma Around Seeking Help
Even in 2025, there’s still stigma. Still fear that asking for help makes you “weak” or “not a real man.” And that stigma is deadly. It stops men reaching out until they’re in crisis, or not at all.
It’s Not Just a Cause. It’s Personal.
At Origins, this isn’t just a box we tick. Men’s mental health is close to our hearts, because we’ve been there too. We’ve known that heavy, hollow feeling. We’ve seen the impact of silence and stigma. And we believe in doing what we can, with what we have, to help shift the dial.
We’re a brand that celebrates men’s stories, and part of that story has to include the reality of mental health.
So each year, we put our money where our mouth is.
Our Commitment: Supporting a Charity You Choose
Every year, we donate a portion of our profits to a men’s mental health charity. But we don’t just pick one ourselves.
We send a vote out to our customers at the end of the year.
You choose where the money goes.
Because it’s not just about us, it’s about all of us. You’re the community we’re building this with. And when we say “together,” we mean it.
Some of the charities we’ve shortlisted include:
-
CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)
Focused on suicide prevention and crisis support. -
ANDYSMANCLUB
A peer-to-peer support group that’s breaking the stigma of men talking. -
Mind – Men’s Mental Health Services
Offering wide-reaching support across the UK. -
Movember Foundation
Known for their work in mental health, suicide prevention, and more.
Whoever wins the vote, the money goes towards real-world support, helping men get the help they need, before it’s too late.
If You’re Struggling, You’re Not Alone
Let’s get serious for a minute.
If you’re reading this and you're struggling, really struggling, we want you to know something:
You are not weak. You are not broken. You are not alone.
There’s help out there. There are people who care. And reaching out is a strength, not a weakness.
Here are a few ways to start:
1. Talk to Someone You Trust
A friend. A family member. Someone you work with. Open up. Even just saying, “I’ve been finding things tough lately” can be a first step.
2. Contact a Support Organisation
-
Samaritans (UK): Call 116 123 (24/7, free)
-
CALM: 0800 58 58 58 or use their webchat (5pm–midnight daily)
-
Mind: 0300 123 3393
-
ANDYSMANCLUB: Free men’s groups across the UK (no referral needed)
3. Speak to Your GP
It might feel awkward, but they’ve heard it all before. Whether it’s therapy, medication, or just talking it through, they can help guide you in the right direction.
4. Join a Men’s Support Group
You’re not alone, and hearing from other men who’ve been there can be life-changing. Places like ANDYSMANCLUB offer exactly that.
How You Can Get Involved
Supporting men’s mental health isn’t just about wearing a wristband once a year or growing a 'tache in November. It’s about doing what you can, when you can.
Here’s how you can help:
-
Vote in our yearly donation poll, your voice decides where the support goes.
-
Share your story (if you feel ready). Talking openly helps others know they’re not alone.
-
Check in with your mates. A simple “How’s things?” can go a long way.
-
Wear your Origins jewellery proudly, it’s more than style. It’s a sign that you stand for something.
We’re In This Together
At Origins, we believe strength isn’t about having it all together. It’s about showing up. Being honest. Having the courage to face the hard stuff and help others do the same.
Jewellery might seem like a small thing in the grand scheme of life — but for us, it’s a way of expressing who you are and what matters to you. Every time you wear a piece from Origins, you're not just wearing something durable, waterproof, and guaranteed for life, you're wearing a symbol of unity, resilience, and community.
And when you choose to buy from us, you’re helping fund life-saving support for men who need it most.
So if you’ve ever felt lost, low, or like no one sees you, we do.
And we’re not going anywhere.
